Sorry Ms Bliss (Debbie to her mates) but there is no way in hell a seam from toe to top is going to make for a comfy pair of socks, no matter how soft Baby Cashmerino is!

So I have made an exective decision and decided to call it a day on the Stripey Baby Socks or any socks knit on straight needles, rather than two circulars or 4 double points!

I always hate to scrap a project, but rest assured, I shall be converting this pattern (or another one) that can be knit in the round and avoids a seam right through the back!  Shame!

Stripey Baby Socks

Following on from my baby knits obsession, a nice quick and easy pattern I am knitting is a pair of Stripey Baby Socks from the new Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino 2 book.  They are knit flat and then you sew the back seam.  I'm using Violet (606) in the Baby Cashmerino and White (100).  IF I find out that I am having a girl, I also want to knit a pair in the Leaf (002) and Old Rose (602).  Nearly finished one sock (which, by the way, I have made a bit longer in the leg) and will post the final pair!

Kimono Baby Wrap

As weird as this may sound, I have only just cottoned on to the fact that I am pregnant again with #3!  Only in the sense that I have been so busy of late, that other than a hellish first 3 months of morning sickness, I have sort of forgotten about it.  I have a bump, am 18 weeks gone and feel knackered, but other than that, its been business as usual.  In the last week I have felt the first flutters and kicks and this has made me broody, in a bizarre way!  As a result, despite us deciding to find out the sex of the baby this time round, I feel an urge to start knitting for the baby (something I neglected to do much of with the boys).  Here is one of my projects that I am to start in the next few days.  It's from a book called Start To Knit and it's a cute little kimono/wrap cardi.  It's using Rowan Wool Cotton (my desert island yarn) and, believe it or not, I am using some from my stash (what a GOOD girl I am).  The colour is elf, coz it's a lovely green that would suit boy or girl.  When I find out the sex, I may well do another top in an appropriate colour (please be pink, please be pink!).

Clap....the story so far!

If you thought I had burned my Clapotis then you wouldn't be far off my mental state.  Although I conceed that the yarn is absolutely divine to knit with (Lornas Laces Lion & Lamb) and that the finished article will look fab, and feel great on (Miss Nicole gloatingly finished her's first out of the IV's) the knitting experience of the Clap has been sooooo painful.  Not hard or anything, just DULL, DULL, DULL, DULL!  Now, don't get me wrong Kate the shawl/scarf is gorgeous, but I just tire of knitting that is pretty much the same throughout, nowt to do with the pattern/design etc.  Anyhow, shut up Emma and show the viewers at home how it's coming along!  Bad photo, and there is knitting on the other side of the chair, but my camera battery died before I could take that shot.  When finito, I shall drape it around my neck proudly and gloat like Nicole.

Felted Fat Cat!

A quick progress report on my Fat Cat.  Here it is felted!  It lost a heap of colour, but I actually don't mind.  Now all I have to do is cut the fabric into the appropriate shapes, stuff and sew.........back ASAP!

Fat Cat!

In the latest edition of Knitscene magazine there were 'web only' downloadable projects, one of which was a felted cat, namely Fat Cat.  I immediately knew it was a project I had to make for baby #3, so I set to it.  Basically you knit a tube of stripey fabric in the round using circulars, and then you felt it, cut it and sew the cut pieces together.  I decided to use Rowan Yorkshire Tweed DK in the brighter colours, and this is the progress at 2pm Friday.  Will post more of the felted fabric, then of the final Cat.  I am considering using regular fabric for the ears, arms and legs!

 

Poorly Sick!

In the 5 years that I have been running The Wool Shack Knitting Circles I think I have only had to cancel 1 due to ilness (be it mine or any other family member) and this month, is the 2nd time.  Luka was struck down with gastro last night (vomiting from 12 midnight till about 3am!!!!) and was a bit poorly sick today too, poor little mite!  I took a photo of him asleep on our rug, bum in the air, looking angelic!  As you can imagine, no work got done today, which is a real bugger, as it was BUSY, but c'est la vie!

Readers Digest Fame

Not sure that you can call an article in Readers Digest as 'fame', but I guess it's the closest thing I'll ever get to fame (short of marrying Orlando Bloom, but I can't see that happening anytime soon!).  So here's me, in a very corny shot of my work place (it was the photographers idea to put George the cat on my lap).  The article was pretty good, apart from them referring to me as 'Gerring' as opposed to Emma, ie, Gerring started the business 5 years ago, etc!  Just think how many ill and aching teethed people will be reading my life story eh!

Joe's 4th Birthday Cake!

Hello again!  I am alive, just been incredibly busy with The Wool Shack Sale, life, children, pregnancy etc!  Anyhow, I am still here, and thought I would post a quickie shot of the much anticipated Pirate Birthday Party Treasure Chest Cake for my eldest small person.  Joe will be 4 years old, and tomorrow we will be hosting 9 hungry pirates for much fun and frivolity!  I shall post photos of my best Pirate decoration efforts (I've even managed to find some atmospheric background Pirate music....yep...there is such a thing!).

Will be filling you in on recent knitting jaunts and quilting purchases as soon as my world slows down!
